RELEASE

Feb 8, 2026    Pastor Sharon E. Thomas

This powerful message centers on one transformative word: RELEASE. We're reminded that God is calling us to higher heights and deeper dimensions in our faith, but we cannot reach these new levels while carrying yesterday's burdens. The sermon draws on the familiar story of the Israelites' exodus from Egypt—a people who witnessed miracle after miracle yet constantly murmured and complained about their past. They had cloud and fire for protection, water from rocks, manna from heaven, and quails for meat, yet they couldn't let go of Egypt. The spiritual lesson is profound: many of us are stuck in our wilderness, not because God hasn't provided, but because we refuse to release childhood traumas, unforgiveness, negativity, and the weight of others' opinions. Scripture after scripture reinforces this theme—from Matthew 6 on forgiveness, to Philippians 4 on casting our anxieties, to 2 Corinthians 5:17 declaring us new creatures in Christ. The message challenges us to examine what we're holding onto that's preventing our forward movement. Are we like the Israelites, complaining about the journey while forgetting the bondage we've been freed from? God has already rescued us from darkness and placed us in His marvelous light. Now He's asking us to drop the weights—the grudges, the shame, the past hurts—so we can run the race He's set before us. This isn't just about feeling better; it's about fulfilling our divine purpose and stepping into the promises God has prepared for us.
