THEY ADDED NOTHING

May 31, 2026    Bishop Vernon Thomas

This powerful message centers on the transformative difference between two types of weight in our spiritual journey: the burden that weighs us down (W-E-I-G-H-T) and the patient endurance of waiting on God (W-A-I-T). Drawing from Isaiah 40:31, we're reminded that those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength and mount up with wings like eagles. The sermon explores how sometimes we confuse being weighed down by life's circumstances with the biblical call to wait patiently for God's timing. Through the story of Moses at the Red Sea and David's patient waiting in the Psalms, we see that standing still in faith isn't passive—it's an active verb, a deliberate leaning back into God's presence when we're at the edge of despair. The message challenges us to recognize that some people in our lives add nothing to our journey, and their departure takes nothing away because God is our true source. When we feel alone and everyone has walked away, God remains as our invisible leaning post, the shadow we can't see but can feel. This is a call to live boldly, to command God through righteous living, and to praise Him even when the path seems unclear, knowing that at His word, miracles happen.
